Arafel is an elf -- the main character in the books The Dreamstone and The Tree of Swords and Jewels by C.J. Cherryh. Arafel got her name because of her tall, pointed ears. Her nickname in the showhall was simply "The Elf." Mercedes Lackey (lyrics) and Leslie Fish (music) wrote a wonderful song about Arafel, called Arafel's Lament. I am including the words here for everyone to enjoy.
